Principles and Functions of Area 35 Archives
Area archives are intended to be a source of information so that we remember where we
came from, how the message of sobriety and serenity has been carried to the still suffering
alcoholic. Our archive has for illustrative purposes some of the various forms of media that
have been used over the years.
Archives are not a library that keeps multiple copies, allowing people to borrow
materials but rather to allow onsite research.
Archives are not a museum collection that displays and explains what, why, and
how the artifacts came to be archived.
The Archive Chair’s functional responsibilities are to communicate with the officers of the
area, other members of the area committee, DCMs, and AA members. Communications
ought to include information about what to archive.
The Archives Committee acts to bring new items to the archives and be of service to the
Archives Chair and Archivist in sourcing, preserving, and cataloging the archive materials.
For the area archive, the archive committee decides what gets added to or removed from
the area archives.
The Archivist acts to source, preserve, catalog, and store the archive materials. The
archivist is responsible for assisting those who desire to research our history. The Archivist
will also exhibit archives when requested and compensated for travel and lodging
expenses. The Archivist can advise district archivists on how to preserve and store their
archives.
Any member of the archive committee and/or the archivist may be called upon to present
an oral history of the archives.
